PARALLEL SECTIONS
BELGIUM, THE GUEST COUNTRY: Belgium is the guest country of Mecal’s twelfth edition. We present a selection of the best Belgian short film works in recent years and also a selection of animation short films from the two main schools of the country: Kask and La Cambre. A great opportunity to immerse oneself into a cinematography that has two currents, the francophone and the Flemish, and that also counts with a large tradition in the animation field.
ÉRIC ROHMER: We offer a review of the filmography in short format of one of the most influential critics and filmmakers of the past decades, Éric Rohmer, quintessence of the Nouvelle Vague along with Bazin, Godard or Truffaut. We will be able to enjoy the shortest and unfortunately less known works of this renowned French filmmaker.
GREEN PORNO: The festival’s Radical section will be showing on this edition the critically acclaimed Green Porno series, written, directed and performed by actress Isabella Rossellini for the Sundance Channel. It’s a series of short films, just as humorous and thought provoking as scientifically accurate, on animal sexual behaviour.
BACK TO THE FUTURE: Human beings have always speculated about the future. In this particular section we will have the chance to discover how future was depicted in short films from the past, through a very interesting selection of audiovisual productions from past times that imagined our present. This section has been devised by the Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival (Portugal).
TUESDAY THE 13th: UFO’s, VAMPIRES, ZOMBIS Unlike in most parts of the world –where Friday the 13th is regarded as unlucky day-, Tuesday the 13th is the dark day in Spain. Despite superstitions, Mecal Pro 2010 wants to celebrate. That’s why we have brought together the three fantastic sections of this edition for such a particular date: Vampires, for blood and horror stories lovers; the UFO section, devoted to aliens and outer space phenomena; and the Zombies special, for living dead fans.
VIDEOCLIPS:The Music Video section of the festival is devoting a special program to Blur. The British indie band was formed in 1989 in Colchester, becoming one of the most famous names of the britpop movement, originated in the United Kingdom in the 90’s. Coinciding with the release of the documentary film “No distance left to run”, we present a compilation of the most outstanding and emblematic audiovisual works of the Brits. Their British origins impregnate their music videos, both topic and aesthetic-wise.
CATALUNYA: Exceptional stage for Catalan short films.
WOMART: Section for reflecting about the female universe.
GREEN: Selection of short films about environmental subject.
CHILDREN'S:Morning performances for schools and all the family. Short films are without dialogues so they are easy to understand for children of all ages.
